Wireless earbuds are doing all sorts of stuff in 2026. They’re tracking your heart rate; they’re trying to help you sleep; they’re translating languages in real time—the list goes on. If there’s one thing that plenty of pairs are not doing particularly well, though, it’s avoiding an early trip to the landfill. But Sennheiser has a simple solution for that.
Sennheiser’s $299 Momentum True Wireless 5 have one feature that really stands out compared to the rest of the pack: replaceable batteries. Batteries in both the charging case and the earbuds themselves are user-replaceable with a screwdriver and aren’t covered in a ton of annoying glue. So when the battery inevitably dies (hopefully years down the line), you aren’t forced to just up and buy new wireless earbuds.
Replaceable batteries in wireless earbuds and headphones aren’t super common yet, but they could become more common in the near future with incoming rules in Europe that mandate them. Per the EU Batteries Regulation, consumer electronics sold in Europe must include a battery that’s user-replaceable beginning on Feb. 18, 2027. There are exemptions being made, but I don’t think that will apply to most pairs of wireless earbuds or headphones.
Outside of the battery of it all, Sennheiser gave the Momentum True Wireless 5 upgraded hybrid active noise cancellation (ANC), a 7mm TrueResponse transducer, and it says the wireless earbuds can last up to 12 hours on a charge, which is a formidable amount of battery. In this generation, the buds have been redesigned, too, and the case is slightly narrower.
The Momentum True Wireless 5 are available starting Sept. 3 for $300 and will come in five different colors, including copper, cream, denim, lavender, and graphite.
