This is one of the least late night-y weeks in late night all year, Rosie O’Donnell notwithstanding. Jimmy Kimmel is off fishing somewhere,WWHL is off this week, Have I Got News For You and The Daily Show are dark until early September, and Late Night With Seth Meyers is off until September 21. Only Jimmy Fallon and John Oliver (and 20-year-old reruns of Comics Unleashed) are holding it down. Into this late night comedy desert comes A Closer Look: Out of Office, a new podcast from Meyers and Late Night writer Sal Gentile. The show will catch up on the news Late Night will miss on weeks the show is off-air. This is not a new format for late night pods. The Daily Show has The Weekly Show With Jon Stewart to catch up on the four days other people host that show. And former Conan writers did a rewatch pod in honor of Conan O’Brien’s 20th year in late night.

Meyers is not new to this podcasting game. Besides this show, he also hosts Family Trips with his brother (and Gavin Newsom impressionist) Josh Meyers, as well as the incredibly catchily-titled The Lonely Island and Seth Meyers Podcast. Earlier this year, that podcast lost People’s Sexiest Podcasters award to The Basement Yard, breaking the hearts of the Quaid Army. The kill? Not very righteous.
