If you’ve been having issues with Google Messages RCS, you’re not alone.

As spotted by Android Authority, Google Messages users have taken to Reddit over the past few days to report that they’ve been unable to send or receive messages via RCS. On one Reddit thread, the original poster says they switched over from a Galaxy Z Fold 6 to Fold 8 and got a 3100 error code. An official Google Help Community representative then suggested that the user update to the latest version of Google Messages, then toggle RCS off, clear data for Carrier Services, restart their phone and toggle RCS back on.

However, the user said that didn’t fix the issue, which the Google representative originally said was likely due to corrupted cache files with Smart Switch. And sure enough, other users using Smart Switch were reporting similar issues. Based on replies, one workaround has been to conduct a factor reset and not use Smart Switch to transfer messages. Your mileage may vary, though, given that some commenters said this, too, didn’t work for them.

Another user, meanwhile, outlined a detailed six-step process that that includes temporarily disabling 2FA and clearing Play Services data. It’s not ideal, but some users have said it’s proven effective.

If nothing else, Google is clearly aware of the issue and will hopefully roll out a wide fix for everyone soon.
