The Wild West has officially arrived on Steam with the launch of GRIT, a third-person Battle Royale from Team GRIT, the studio founded by developers behind games such as Planetary Annihilation and Monday Night Combat. The game throws players into a chaotic Western showdown where up to 100 gunslingers fight for survival and a chance to catch the last train out of town.
GRIT brings some improvements with its full Steam launch, including updated weapons, controls, maps, movement, horseback combat, customization, and more. Players can compete solo or team up in Duos and Posses, with matches lasting around 25 minutes.
One of the game’s standout features is its card-based inventory system. Weapons come with different ranks and suits, and collecting matching suits unlocks powerful perks. Diamonds focus on tracking enemies, Hearts improve healing and reviving, Spades specialize in armor penetration, while Clubs turn horses into powerful combat tools.
Getting eliminated doesn’t necessarily mean the match is over. Players can fight their way back through a 1v1 quick-draw duel in the game’s Second Chance system.
GRIT also puts an emphasis on realistic gunplay, with bullets requiring players to account for travel time and bullet drop. Meanwhile, the moving train offers both valuable loot and a strategic way to stay inside the shrinking play area. Every match can also play out differently thanks to Wildcards, which randomly alter the rules before the action begins. The game also launches with a 100-level CattlePass featuring weapon and horse skins, outfits, parachutes, titles, and more.
With its mix of Western gunfights, horses, trains, and unpredictable matches, GRIT offers a fresh take on the Battle Royale formula.
