Home > Hyderabad > Hyderabad’s ₹1,341 Crore Streetlight Project Tender Process Moves Forward
The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has moved forward with a major infrastructure initiative by finalizing the tender process for a comprehensive streetlight maintenance project. Three firms submitted bids for the ambitious contract, and the GHMC Engineering Department has selected the lowest bidder following standard procurement procedures. This development marks a significant step toward improving the city’s public lighting infrastructure and ensuring consistent illumination across Hyderabad’s streets.
The project carries a substantial financial commitment of ₹1,341.6 crore and is structured as a long-term maintenance contract spanning 10 years. This comprehensive approach aims to provide sustained and reliable street lighting services throughout the city. The selected contractor will be responsible for the upkeep, repair, and replacement of streetlights across all zones under GHMC jurisdiction, ensuring that residents benefit from well-lit roads and public spaces throughout the contract period.
Under the terms of the agreement, the contractor must adhere to strict performance standards to maintain service quality. Any damaged or non-functional streetlights must be replaced within 2 days of being reported or identified. This rapid response requirement is designed to minimize periods of darkness on city streets and enhance public safety. The contract also includes provisions for regular monitoring and maintenance to prevent failures before they occur.
The performance benchmarks set for this project are particularly stringent. The contractor will be required to ensure that 98% of streetlights remain operational every day across the city. This high operational threshold reflects the municipality’s commitment to maintaining consistent lighting standards and addressing one of the common civic complaints from residents. The project is expected to significantly improve the reliability of street lighting services in Hyderabad and reduce the instances of prolonged outages that have affected various neighborhoods in the past.
