Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel on Wednesday stepped up the state’s engagement with global technology companies, meeting senior leaders from Micron, Google and Perplexity AI during the third day of his US visit ahead of the Vibrant Gujarat Summit 2027.

Patel’s meetings with Micron chairman and CEO Sanjay Mehrotra, Google vice president Chandu Thota and Perplexity CEO Aravind Srinivas focused on semiconductors, artificial intelligence, data infrastructure, skilling and potential investments in Gujarat. At Micron, Mehrotra thanked Patel for the state government’s swift approval of 20 acres of land for the company’s Sanand facility. The Micron chief also appreciated the state’s efforts to facilitate the early commencement of commercial production at the semiconductor unit, an official release from the state government regarding the visit stated.

At Google, the visiting delegation from Gujarat discussed potential collaboration across several areas, with Thota expressing interest in working with the state on youth skilling, AI training for teachers and students, and the use of AI in agriculture.

Discussions included applying AI to crop patterns as well as soil and climate data.

Google and the Gujarat government also discussed data security and the use of Google Workspace Sovereign AI, indicating a broader focus on building AI capabilities while addressing data governance requirements.

In a separate one-on-one meeting, Patel met Perplexity CEO Aravind Srinivas, with discussions centred on bringing the AI search company’s engineering and research-and-development operations to Gujarat. The talks also explored the possibility of setting up a Perplexity data centre in Gujarat or developing a hybrid arrangement involving developers and Perplexity, according to the Gujarat government.

Patel also met members of The Indus Entrepreneurs (TiE) of Silicon Valley, with discussions covering possible collaboration in healthcare, training of healthcare workers and youth skilling through AI tools. The meetings come as Gujarat seeks to position itself beyond its traditional industrial base and attract investments in semiconductors, artificial intelligence, data centres and emerging technologies ahead of Vibrant Gujarat Summit 2027.
