apple vs openai: can siri ai challenge chatgpt?

Apple is preparing to launch its biggest Siri upgrade with iOS 27 later next month (most likely first or second week of September 2026). The new Siri will bring advanced AI features to millions of iPhone users, which will allow them to search the web, write emails, reply to messages and complete everyday tasks using AI.

While ChatGPT is the most popular AI chatbot for now, Apple’s built-in Siri AI can reach more users because it will come pre-installed on compatible iPhones. But can it really compete with OpenAI’s ChatGPT?

According to a Bloomberg report, Apple’s new Siri AI is designed to make everyday tasks easier on the iPhone. Users will be able to search the web, write emails, reply to messages, create images and find information from emails and files using simple voice or text commands.

Since Siri is built into the iPhone, it can also change device settings, make phone calls and send messages more smoothly than third-party AI apps. However, as per Bloomberg, ChatGPT still has a clear advantage when it comes to conversations and productivity.

Sam Altman’s latest GPT-Live voice mode allows users to interrupt the AI while it is speaking which makes interactions feel more natural and closer to a real conversation.

Siri, on the other hand, still works in a slower, turn-by-turn format and cannot be interrupted while responding.

One of Siri AI’s biggest strengths is its ability to understand what’s happening on your iPhone screen and the deep integration with Apple’s ecosystem gives Siri an advantage that most third-party AI apps currently lack.

ChatGPT, meanwhile, is better in work-related tasks. It can easily connect with services such as Google Drive, browses the internet, helps create presentations, edits documents and much more.

These integrations make it a better option for professionals users who depend on AI for productivity.

The Cupertino-based tech giant is also taking a different approach to safety. Unlike ChatGPT, Siri clearly tells users that it cannot replace a doctor, therapist or real human companion.

Even if it has access to information from Apple devices, Siri will suggest users to seek professional advice for medical or emotional concerns instead of relying entirely on AI.

Overall, Apple’s new Siri AI will be a major upgrade for iPhone users because of its integration with personal data and Apple apps. However, the report suggests that ChatGPT can lead in voice conversations, third-party integrations and advanced productivity features.
