Marathon's Vault Breaker, an experimental PvE mode that allowed even solo folks to take on the endgame map Cryo Archive, is wrapping up today, but Bungie does at least have a new event for you to have a go at in kind. It's called Ordnance Heist, and while it doesn't offer any major new features or radical changes, the big thing it does focus on is completing multiple runs across multiple maps, netting you an explosive weapon called the Firestorm.

To start, you'll want to load into Perimeter and earn yourself some UESC Manifests and key templates; harder enemies give you better drop odds. Those key templates then give you an embedded objective you need to complete on Dire Marsh, both the day and night version, and if you successfully exfil with the finished template, it converts into a Firestorm Locker key. The only problem is, you'll need three of those keys to get to the next part.

Once you've managed to scrounge three of them, which I'm sure will be an annoying enough task, you'll need to bring them all with you onto either Perimeter, Dire Marsh, or Outpost where you can start looking for a Firestorm Locker. Of course, others will also be looking for this locker, so speed is the name of the game. Dying obviously wouldn't be ideal here either given the whole losing everything you've got on you thing that happens upon death.

If you successfully find and open the locker, you'll net yourself the aforementioned Firestorm. It's the shooter's first power weapon, shooting out explosive rounds that take your foes down as quick as you can say Marathon. You'll find it equipped with three custom contraband mods: a sniper scope, a chip that makes those rounds explosive, and a custom magazine that only has six shots. Run out of ammo, and that's it, you can't pick any more up, so it sounds like more of a last resort. You also can't keep it to use in other runs, so when you exfil it converts into credits.

This Ordnance Heist event kicks off today, August 18th, at 10am PT/1pm ET/6pm BST, and runs until September 1st at the same time. After that, the Firestorm will "persist as a possible drop in Supply Drops on Zones that feature them," so says this blog post. Also worth noting is those Manifests you can pick up allow you to buy up to two key templates a day, as well as other, slightly rarer and strong items to take with you on runs. Truthfully, the whole thing sounds like a lot of effort just for one gun you can't use for very long, but hey ho, it's… something.
