The next batch of Xbox and PC Game Pass games has been announced, detailing what's arriving in the latter part of August.

The undoubted focal point is the day-one addition of Asobo's new Plague Tale game, Resonance: A Plague Tale, which spins a prequel tale – across dual timelines – on the island of Crete.

I've played Resonance: A Plague Tale and was enthusiastic about it. The series has ditched stealth gameplay and gone all-in on combat to great effect. Combine handsome set-pieces, tricky puzzles and incredible ruins, and you've got an appealing Tomb Raider and Uncharted-like adventure.

Another day-one Game Pass release to potentially get excited about is Blood Dungeon, the new game from Nidhogg creator Messhof. Nidhogg was a low-fi swashbuckling duel game that was a riot in a local co-op party setting. It sounds like Blood Dungeon is a Metroidvania kind of idea.

It's also worth noting that the Remastered edition of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt leaves Game Pass at the end of the month, so if you've never taken the plunge, you've still got time – and a good reason with a new expansion on the way.

Games with a "handheld" designation are optimised for handheld play.
