Kataka: An unidentified woman’s body was recovered from the Jobra Anicut in Kataka Tuesday morning, prompting police to launch an investigation.

Locals spotted the body floating near gates 41 and 42 of the anicut and alerted the authorities. A fire services team reached the spot, recovered the body and handed it over to police.

Police sent the body for postmortem examination as efforts are underway to establish the woman’s identity. She is believed to be around 35 years old, sources said.

Investigators are examining all possible angles, including whether the woman died by suicide or was killed. Her identity and the circumstances leading to her death have not yet been established, the sources added.
