Megastar Amitabh Bachchan has endorsed Uttar Pradesh Police’s first official anthem, ‘Khaki Ka Sitara’, emphasising its themes of service and sacrifice in a post on his X account.
The veteran actor shared the police department’s original message, writing, “Some stars shine in the sky… some wear Khaki and shine on the ground. Khaki Ka Sitara.”
The full 6.5-minute anthem was released on YouTube on August 17, following its launch by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath at Lok Bhavan in Lucknow on August 14.
The anthem features vocals by Bachchan alongside Padma Shri Shankar Mahadevan, who also composed the music. The lyrics were penned by acclaimed poet and lyricist Alok Shrivastava. Actor Karan Aanand plays the role of a police officer in the film, which was conceptualised, co-written, and creatively directed by Rahul Srivastav, IPS, PRO of UP Police.
The launch event was attended by Mahadevan, Padma Shri Nana Patekar, Shrivastava, Aanand, members of the film and music fraternity, and senior IPS officers and police personnel.
Developed in-house by UP Police, the anthem’s production extended over more than a year, beginning during Mahakumbh 2025 and continuing through Independence Day 2026.
Filming captures police personnel engaged in a variety of duties such as law and order management, women’s safety, traffic control, technology use, disaster relief, and everyday policing. It highlights both the courage and compassion of the police force, focusing on individuals who remain on duty during festivals, crisis response, and routine responsibilities, often without public recognition.
At the August 14 launch, Shankar Mahadevan described his involvement with ‘Khaki Ka Sitara’ as “one of the special moments of my life,” dedicating the anthem to Chief Minister Adityanath and the entire Uttar Pradesh Police family.
Reciting lines from the anthem, Mahadevan emphasised its message of safety and commitment: “Suraksha Aapki, Sankalp Hamara”, “Hum date rahe, hum khade rahe, chattanon jaise ade rahe.”
He added that musically expressing the service, courage and resolve of the police had been an exceptionally meaningful experience and considered this association one of his most cherished achievements.
