Though I usually love British humour, I don’t find perennial political candidate Count Binface all that funny. The whole “Oxford-educated silly boy flogging the dead carcass of Monty Python” thing feels a bit tired. But then again, the British people feel tired too — especially the constituents of Clacton, one of the most deprived electorates in Britain, who on Thursday were asked to vote in a pointless by-election triggered by Nigel Farage.

This self-inflicted farce cost taxpayers about £250,000 (A$478,000 — Farage’s party, Reform UK, had offered to cover the costs, but the government said this would be illegal).
