Truck owners in the United States spent more than $15 billion in 2025 modifying their pickups for off-road outings, according to the 2026 SEMA Market Report, with lift kits and suspension upgrades accounting for more than $3 billion of that total. Pickup trucks, perhaps not surprisingly, generate the largest share of aftermarket sales, according to the SEMA report.
Buyers who'd rather skip that cost and labor can receive similar off-road capability built into the 2027 Tundra at the factory, covered by warranty from the day it leaves the dealer lot. Toyota's answer is the new Trailhunter package, a factory-built overlanding setup that's ready for the trail without any aftermarket work. It arrives alongside a bolder front end and a new multimedia system across the rest of the 2027 Toyota Tundra lineup.
Built on the SR5 trim level, still the sweet spot of the Tundra lineup, the Trailhunter adds Michelin LTX Trail 265/70R18 tires, an Old Man Emu-tuned suspension, front recovery hooks, and additional underbody protection. Toyota is positioning it at a more accessible price than the range-topping TRD Pro, targeting buyers who want off-road capability without paying for the most expensive truck in the lineup.
The Trailhunter package also combines the Tundra's existing off-road tech, including Multi-Terrain Select and Crawl Control, along with a locking rear differential. Bronze wheels and Trailhunter-specific badges give the truck a distinct look to match the hardware underneath.

Toyota hasn't published horsepower or torque figures specific to the 2027 Tundra, but the automaker confirmed the same twin-turbo V6 and the aforementioned hybrid i-FORCE MAX powertrains carry over. Both are connected to a 10-speed automatic with uphill and downhill shift logic and dedicated tow/haul modes.
Regarding the 2026 Tundra, the i-FORCE twin-turbo V6 produces 389 horsepower and 479 lb-ft. of torque, while the base SR runs a detuned version rated at 348 horsepower and 405 lb-ft. of torque. The i-FORCE MAX hybrid pairs the standard V6 with a motor-generator built into the bellhousing between the engine and transmission. The motor-generator handles engine start-up and electric-only driving, delivers extra power under acceleration, and helps with energy regeneration.
