One person has been killed and four others injured in a shooting at an outdoor concert in Lexington, Kentucky. The shooting happened at about 18:45 local time on Saturday at Charles Young Park, police said.
Two of those injured were children, aged 14 and four, while the other two were adults. All four were taken to a nearby hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.
No details have been released about the identity of the person who died, the other victims or a possible suspect. No arrests had been made as of Sunday morning.
Police said there was no longer any threat to the public.
The shooting happened about a mile and a half from a Kentucky Democratic Party dinner attended by Governor Andy Beshear.
Beshear told those at the dinner: "Before I continue, I do need to let y’all know we do have some tough news tonight."
"About a mile and a half from here, we’ve had a shooting actually since we started this dinner," he said.
"We have five people that I think received injuries and probably have one deceased," he added, before assuring diners that the situation had been resolved.
Beshear later said: "To stop mass shootings, we have got to elect Democrats that will actually do something about it."
Lexington Police Chief Lawrence Weathers urged people to report anyone they believed might pose a threat.
"If you know somebody who might be inclined to use a weapon, please do anything you can do to let us know before something happens. Please let us know," he said at a news conference.
The shooting came hours after another shooting at Virginia State University on Saturday morning.
