Cleary has spent the last two seasons in the Warriors’ system, mostly plying his trade in reserve grade.
He has yet to make his NRL debut but that could change shortly given the Warriors’ halves crisis after injuries to Te Maire Martin and Luke Metcalf.
The 21-year-old has requested a release from his Warriors deal at season’s end in order to join his brother Nathan and father Ivan in the latter’s final year at the helm at Penrith.
The younger Cleary‘s current deal with the Warriors runs until the end of 2027 and his request to leave early have left the club none too pleased.
According to Code Sports, the Warriors planned to decline the request, which caught Penrith off-side given the Panthers let gun prop James Fisher-Harris head across the Tasman two years before the end of his deal.
However, the two clubs are set to resolve things in the coming days and Jett’s wish is set to be granted.
It’s worth noting that Warriors coach Andrew Webster used to be an assistant coach under Cleary at Penrith but there’s no suggestion their relationship has suffered because of this development.
