TORONTO – Charles McAdoo drove in a pair of runs, including a go-ahead double in the seventh inning, and Toronto Blue Jays defeated the New York Yankees 4-1 at Rogers Centre on Saturday.
McAdoo’s double in the seventh flying deep into centre field allowed Ernie Clement to score the winning run from first base.
McAdoo followed that with a bases-loaded single in the eighth inning to drive in another run to give the Blue Jays a 3-1 lead.
Nathan Lukes’ fielder’s choice RBI gave the Jays a 4-1 lead and capped the two-run inning.
The win helped the Blue Jays (61-64) in their late charge for a wild-card spot in the post-season. Toronto will try for a series sweep of the Yankees (68-55) on Sunday.
Alejandro Kirk drove in Toronto’s first run of the game in the third inning, helping the Blue Jays even the score 1-1 after George Lombard Jr. hit an RBI single in the second inning for the Yankees.
Spencer Miles (5-2) picked up the win in relief for the Blue Jays. Brent Headrick (6-2) took the loss.
