Mangaluru: Food safety officials conducted a surprise inspection at a KFC outlet on KS Rao Road in Mangaluru following a consumer complaint alleging that stale chicken was served through an online order.

The inspection was carried out after the consumer complained that a Chicken Peri Peri Leg ordered online from the outlet contained chicken that appeared stale and had an unpleasant taste.

Officials inspected the kitchen, storeroom, cold storage and deep freezers at the outlet. They also checked the chicken that had been fried and cooked for sale.

During the inspection, a godown associated with the outlet was sealed, while samples of the food items were collected and sent to a laboratory for testing.

The inspection comes as food safety authorities have been stepping up checks. The department has been carrying out such inspections on various food establishments in the last few days in Bengaluru.
