Independence Day 2026: Jatin Suri has been creating buzz with his performance in Anupamaa and the actor's thoughts on Independence Day give us a sneak peek into his personal connect with the day. Jatin's childhood memories include celebrations with the tricolor, patriotic songs and flag hoisting at school. "But as I grew, my understanding of the day has become deeper," he says. Now, for him, Independence Day is as much about pride as it is about responsibility toward the country.
For Jatin, Independence Day has always carried a special energy. As a child, the celebrations at school were filled with excitement, colours and patriotic songs.
"For me, Independence Day has always brought a very different kind of energy. My strongest memories are from school, wearing the tricolour, participating in the celebrations, listening to patriotic songs and watching the flag being hoisted. As a child, it was mostly about the excitement of the day, but as I have grown older, I understand the meaning behind it much more deeply," he said.
The actor added that his feelings towards the national flag have also changed over the years. "Today, when I see the Tiranga, I feel a sense of pride and responsibility towards the country," Jatin added.
Jatin believes patriotism cannot be reduced to social media posts or celebrating the country on one particular day. He feels that it should reflect in people's everyday behaviour and their contribution to society.
"I think genuine patriotism is much bigger than posting a flag or sharing a patriotic song once a year. For me, patriotism is about respecting the country, respecting its people and contributing positively in whatever way you can," he said.
The Anupamaa actor feels that even simple actions can reflect one's love for the country. "It is about doing your work honestly, following the law, helping someone when you can and taking responsibility for the society you are part of," he explained.
Jatin also spoke about his responsibility as an actor and how his profession can influence people. "As an actor, I feel I also have a responsibility because cinema can influence people. If through my work I can entertain people, inspire them or make them think about something meaningful, that is also my way of giving something back to my country," he said.
Jatin also believes that questioning things that are wrong can be an important part of loving one's country. According to him, patriotism should leave room for honest conversations and constructive criticism.
"Absolutely. In fact, I believe questioning something that is wrong can also come from a place of love for your country. Loving your country doesn't mean believing that everything is perfect. Every country has challenges, and recognising them is the first step towards improving them," Jatin said.
He further explained his understanding of patriotism, adding, "For me, patriotism is not blind support; it is wanting to see your country become better and being willing to contribute to that change. You can be proud of where you come from and, at the same time, honestly speak about what needs to improve."
For Jatin, therefore, Independence Day is not just about remembering freedom but also about understanding the responsibility that comes with it.
