Independence Day 2026: From winning Splitsvilla to exploring fiction with Gharwali Pedwali, actress Priyamvada Kant has continued to evolve professionally by taking on different opportunities. This Independence Day, however, the actress is lending her voice to a concern that goes beyond the entertainment industry – the growing need for greater awareness around food safety.
With Tukaram Mundhe's recent food-safety drive bringing issues such as adulteration, hygiene and food quality into sharper focus, Priyamvada believes that visible action by authorities can encourage ordinary citizens to become more conscious about what they consume. In an exclusive conversation with Filmibeat Assistant Editor Abhishek Ranjit over a phone call, the TV diva shared her thoughts on the food safety drive and also raised an important conversation about the same,
"Food safety is something that directly affects every single person. If the food we consume isn't safe, then strict action is absolutely necessary," says Priyamvada, stressing that public health should never be compromised.
For the actress, awareness plays a crucial role in creating meaningful social change. While strict action from authorities can establish accountability, she believes citizens also need to understand their role in demanding better standards.
"When people see authorities taking visible action, it naturally makes them question what they are consuming and the standards they should expect," she adds.
Priyamvada feels that when authorities actively address unsafe practices, it encourages people to become more informed about their choices. She believes the conversation should not stop with enforcement but should also inspire consumers to become more aware and vocal.
"We shouldn't simply accept poor hygiene or questionable food practices as normal. As consumers, we have every right to ask questions and demand better," the actress says.
She believes consumers should not simply accept poor hygiene or questionable food practices as part of everyday life. Instead, people can contribute to change by asking questions, making informed decisions and expecting businesses to maintain proper standards.
At the same time, Priyamvada stresses that creating a healthier society cannot be the responsibility of one group alone.
"Authorities have to enforce the rules, businesses have to follow them responsibly, and consumers also have to play their part. It has to be a collective effort," she explains.
The actress also believes that stronger monitoring can encourage businesses to become more conscious about the food they prepare and serve, making quality and hygiene a consistent responsibility rather than something addressed only when inspections take place.
Reflecting on the larger meaning of Independence Day, Priyamvada believes that the well-being and safety of citizens should remain at the heart of building a stronger nation.
"For me, a stronger India is also one where people feel safe, informed and confident about the basic things they consume every day," she says.
Her Independence Day perspective therefore goes beyond celebrating the nation symbolically. For Priyamvada Kant, building a stronger India also means creating a society where citizens are aware of their rights and businesses understand their responsibility towards public well-being.
As conversations around food safety continue, her message highlights the importance of turning awareness into everyday action – something she believes can eventually lead to a larger and more sustainable change.
