THR reports Tower Defense, a “medieval and supernatural fantasy twist on the concept seen in the early John Carpenter movie Assault on Precinct 13,” is now in development at Paramount’s new “smartly-budgeted genre label,” Paramount Primal. Though further details on the plot are currently under wraps, the project hails from Snow White and the Huntsman writer, Evan Daugherty.
Deadline has word Emile Hirsch, Anthony Michael Hall, Claire Forlani, and Stephen Lang are attached to star in Final Invasion, a sci-fi thriller entering production in Mexico from director Josh Sternfeld. Based on a script by Patricia A. Beninati with Michael K. Anderson and Jeff Knight, the story sees “a mysterious UAP satellite crashing in the New Mexico desert. It unleashes a rapidly mutating extraterrestrial organism that infects all life on Earth, including humans, animals, and the planet’s ecosystems, triggering an extinction-level event.”
Variety reports the sequel to Barbie is currently in limbo due to new “financial asks” from Margot Robbie, Ryan Gosling, Greta Gerwig, and Noah Baumbach. According to the outlet, Gosling is “reportedly asking $20 million to reprise his Oscar-nominated role as Ken,” while Robbie wants more than the “$50 million in salary and back end from the first movie.” Gerwig is also championing for more than the “tens of millions of dollars” she earned “the first time around.”
