India batter Jemimah Rodrigues has been ruled out of the upcoming ACC Women’s Asia Cup in the UAE and the Asian Games in Japan after suffering a high-grade tear in her right hamstring, the BCCI confirmed on Friday. Rodrigues sustained the injury on August 3 while playing in The Hundred in England. She was subsequently assessed by the BCCI Medical Team at the Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru, where clinical evaluation confirmed the severity of the injury.
The setback rules the 25-year-old out of two major assignments for India in the coming weeks and leaves the team without one of its most experienced middle-order batters. The BCCI did not specify a recovery timeline, but the confirmation that Rodrigues has suffered a high-grade tear means she will not be available for either the continental tournament in the UAE or the Asian Games in Japan. Rodrigues has been a central figure in India’s white-ball set-up, offering both stability and acceleration through the middle overs. Her absence will force the team management to reshape the batting order at a busy stage of the international calendar.

The Women’s Selection Committee has named Pratika Rawal as Rodrigues’ replacement for the Asia Cup. No replacement for the Asian Games was announced in the BCCI advisory. Rawal’s inclusion gives India another top-order option in a squad that will be led by Harmanpreet Kaur, with Smriti Mandhana serving as vice-captain. Shafali Verma, Bharti Fulmali, Deepti Sharma and Richa Ghosh are among the other frontline batting options named in the revised 15-member squad.
The wicketkeeping responsibilities will be shared by Richa Ghosh and G. Kamalini, while India’s bowling group includes Renuka Thakur, Arundhati Reddy, Radha Yadav, Sree Charani, Nandni Sharma and Kranti Gaud. Rodrigues’ injury comes less than a month before the two tournaments and represents a significant disruption to India’s preparations. With the Asia Cup approaching first, the immediate focus will be on how India reorganise their middle order and whether Rawal can use the opportunity to strengthen her place in the side.
