Skoda’s Slavia has been one of the most talked about sedans in India since its arrival. Its facelift has now been long awaited, and the brand has officially teased the updated car ahead of its debut on August 18. The new model brings fresh styling, more equipment and an important gearbox change for the smaller petrol engine.

The teaser does not show the complete car, but earlier test cars have already given us a good idea of the changes. The basic shape of the sedan will stay familiar, with the update focused on selected design details.

The side profile is expected to look much like the current Slavia. The changes should give the sedan a fresher appearance without making it look like an entirely new car.

The cabin is expected to receive several useful additions. A larger 10.25 inch touchscreen infotainment system could be offered, similar to the unit seen on the updated Kushaq.

A 360 degree camera and Level 2 ADAS are not expected with this update. These features are likely to be kept for the next generation model.

The facelift will continue with the familiar turbo petrol engines.

The biggest mechanical update is expected on the 1.0 litre engine. Its current six speed automatic could be replaced by a new eight speed automatic transmission. The 1.5 litre engine will continue with the seven speed DSG.

The current Slavia costs between Rs 10 lakh and Rs 18.19 lakh ex showroom. The facelift could carry a small price increase because of the added equipment. Final variant wise prices will be announced on August 18.

The Slavia will continue to face the Volkswagen Virtus, Hyundai Verna and Honda City.

For buyers who still prefer a proper sedan, the facelift brings some welcome changes. The August 18 launch will reveal how much Skoda has added to the package.
