While Anne Hathaway stars alongside Ewan McGregor in The End of Oak Street, her costar in life is husband Adam Shulman. As the couple prepares to welcome their third baby, read about their romance.

Oh don’t be ridiculous, Andrea. Everybody wants this—a relationship like the one Anne Hathaway has with husband Adam Shulman.

No, no, that wasn’t a question, and neither is the way The Devil Wears Prada star feels about the jewelry designer.

"I am one of the luckiest people on the planet Earth," Hathaway told E! News’ Justin Sylvester at the July 14 New York premiere of her movie The Odyssey, in which she stars alongside Matt Damon as Odysseus' wife Penelope. "I met my soulmate, and we decided to get married and have a family, and I have that in common with my character."The Odyssey is one of her five films to come out in 2026—Hathaway already having released Mother Mary and The Devil Wears Prada 2. Following The End of Oak Street's release Aug. 14, she'll turn her attention to October's Verity.

Add that to Shulman’s own career in jewelry and producing, plus parenting 10-year-old Jonathan and 6-year-old Jack while preparating for baby no. 3, and you could say the couple has been moving at anything but a glacial pace.

"The way he stepped up, I mean in every possible way, he’s the most extraordinary person I’ve ever met," Hathaway, who recently showed off her baby bump (which, yes, is real, trolls) at The End of Oak Street premiere, told People in April. "And I’m so lucky that he’s my partner that I spend my life with. And if I didn’t know that before this past year, I really know it now."

So if you’re still wondering if they’re meant for each other, please bore someone else with your questions. "It’s one thing to have dreams, it’s another thing to have somebody who helps you achieve them," the Oscar winner added. "And I absolutely would not be able to have achieved what I’ve done without my husband."

The runway of Hathaway and Shulman’s relationship extends back to 2008 when they were introduced through friends. Like florals for spring, this meet-cute may not seem groundbreaking. But fans might be surprised to learn how their romance bloomed."Someone told me he had a girlfriend, so I backed off," Hathaway recalled on The Late Show With David Letterman in 2012. "Found out, I think it was six weeks later, that he didn’t have a girlfriend. So then I asked him if he wanted to go to New Orleans with me."Heading to the Big Easy for a screening of her film Rachel Getting Married, Hathaway had an extra ticket. And since her best friends in L.A. couldn’t go, she thought Shulman would be a good plus-one. Still, The Princess Diaries alum's pals didn’t exactly bow down to the idea right away.

"My friends said, 'Well, what happens if it goes badly?'" she added. "I said, 'If it goes badly, then we’ll never see each other again. And if it goes well, we’ll probably get married.'"And they did—tying the knot in September 2012. They have some stellar symbols of their marriage too: matching tattoos.

Noting the "idea is that individually we’re whole but together we’re more," Hathaway explained of the design on The Drew Barrymore Show in 2023, "I don’t expect him to complete me, and I don’t think he expects me to complete him. He’s his own person, I’m my own person, and we choose to be together because we believe we make each other better and this union is something we both want to participate in."

Three and a half years after saying "I do," the pair welcomed son Jonathan in March 2016. And just like with her onscreen work, Shulman has nothing but praise for Hathaway’s role as a mom. "She always amazes me," the 45-year-old raved to People in 2016. "As a mother, she is gorgeous."

Little brother Jack came three years later. And soon, Hathaway and Shulman will be celebrating the arrival of their family's newest cast member—Hathaway announcing her pregnancy on Instagram in June.

"We were so shocked it went this way," the 43-year-old said on Late Night With Seth Meyers July 14. "So, we’re calling this one our buzzer beater."

But for now, Hathaway and Shulman are just enjoying life as a family of four.

The kids are "in this really fun zone where we all love hanging out together, which I understand may change. Well, we will always love hanging out with them, but their feelings about us might change," Hathaway told ELLE in May. "So for the moment, we’re all just in it. Adam and I are soaking it up. I’m having the most wonderful time with my family, living in the city of my dreams, and work seems to be going really, really well."
