The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested three individuals in connection with the Improvised Explosive Device (IED) explosion at Himachal Pradesh’s Nalagarh Police Station on January 1, 2026. The explosion occurred near the outer wall adjacent to the investigating officer’s room within the police station’s premises.

The accused, identified as Mahavir Kumar alias Kaka, Ajay Mehra, and Manpreet Singh alias Mani, are the first to be apprehended in this case by the NIA. They were produced before the special NIA court in Shimla, Himachal Pradesh. Mahavir Kumar and Ajay Mehra have been remanded to eight days of police custody, while Manpreet Singh has been placed in judicial custody.

The case was initially registered at the Nalagarh Police Station following the IED explosion, which occurred around 9:40 am on January 1. The investigation was later taken over by the NIA, which re-registered the case on May 8 as RC-27/2026/NIA/DLI under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), the Explosive Substances Act, and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.

During the investigation, the involvement of Mahavir Kumar, Ajay Mehra, and Manpreet Singh was established. The NIA stated that the arrests have been made as part of its efforts to uncover the larger conspiracy behind the terror attack. The agency further indicated that the investigation is ongoing to identify and apprehend other individuals involved and to determine the broader network responsible for the incident.
