Qatar Insurance Company SAQ (DSMD:QATI) delivered a resilient first half with net profit of QAR365 million, close to last year's level despite a significant regional geopolitical conflict.

Insurance revenue increased by 15% to QAR4.8 billion, driven by growth in the UE medical business and international operations.

The company's diversified business model effectively absorbed the QAR50 million net impact of the regional conflict through existing reserves and stronger results in other regional businesses.

Investment income grew by 2.8% to QAR477 million, with the portfolio maintaining a high-quality and diversified profile.

The QCP solvency ratio remained strong at approximately 200%, broadly in line with the first quarter, indicating a solid capital position.

Underwriting performance improved year-over-year in regional operations when excluding the impact of the conflict.

The regional geopolitical conflict had a significant negative impact, with the net impact estimate developing from QAR25 million in Q1 to QAR50 million by mid-year.

The insurance service result declined by 8.4% to QAR202 million, primarily due to the conflict's impact.

The combined ratio increased to 94.7% under IFRS, reflecting the adverse effect of the conflict on underwriting results.

The ultimate cost of the conflict remains uncertain and will depend on how the situation and claims develop, posing a risk to future results.

Gross written premium growth slowed to 4.3% in H1, with a noted decline in Q2 compared to the double-digit growth seen in Q1, partly due to the timing of renewals.

The effective tax rate fell significantly year-over-year due to net losses in certain units, and the outlook for the full-year tax rate remains uncertain due to the conflict and Pillar 2 tax implications.
