Aizawl, Aug 13: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Wednesday conducted searches at five locations in Mizoram as part of its probe into a transnational narcotics trafficking network linked to the seizure of more than six kg of methamphetamine from a Myanmar boat in the Bay of Bengal in November 2024.
A total of Rs 43.11 lakh was seized during the raid, including Rs 22.38 lakh from Champhai and Rs 20.73 lakh from Aizawl.
The coordinated searches were conducted at five locations in Mizoram and eight in Tamil Nadu as part of the investigation into a transnational narcotics trafficking network.
The case originated with the seizure of more than six kg of methamphetamine, along with a satellite phone and other articles, from a Myanmar boat near Barren Island in the Bay of Bengal in November 2024.
Following the seizure, the Andaman and Nicobar Police registered a case and arrested six Myanmar nationals. They were subsequently chargesheeted on March 27, 2025, under relevant provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985, and the Foreigners Act, 1946.
The NIA took over the investigation and re-registered the case on August 11, 2025. The accused are currently in judicial custody.
The agency said the latest searches were aimed at uncovering the complete network involved in the trafficking operation and identifying other individuals allegedly linked to the conspiracy.
The investigation is also focused on establishing connections between the seized methamphetamine consignment and wider international drug syndicates.
Further investigation is underway to identify and apprehend additional individuals involved in the alleged narcotics trafficking network.
