A football club is bringing grassroots football and music together for its new 2026/27 kit.

Cwmbran Celtic FC will feature the names of four independent bands on its men’s and women’s first-team shirts for the new season.

Super Furry Animals, Glasgow post-rock group Mogwai, Panic Shack and Manchester punk band Loose Articles have all signed up to the collaboration.

The partnership celebrates the shared community spirit, passion and grassroots values of football and live music.

Most of the money raised through shirt sales will support Cwmbran Celtic’s operations, which include six senior teams, veterans, walking football and a full junior programme for boys and girls.

A further 10% of profits from every shirt sold will be donated to Music Venue Trust, which campaigns to protect and improve grassroots music venues across the UK.

Mogwai, who are Celtic fans, will feature on the club’s green-and-white hooped shirt.

Loose Articles also have a connection to Cwmbran, with the Manchester band’s drummer having a mother who lives in the town.

The collaboration follows previous links between football shirts and musicians, including Wet Wet Wet’s sponsorship of Clydebank in the 1990s, Ed Sheeran’s involvement with Ipswich Town and Super Furry Animals appearing on a Cardiff City shirt in 1999.

The kits will also mark the debut of Tor Sports as Cwmbran Celtic’s new kit supplier.

Matt Jarrett, joint commercial manager at Cwmbran Celtic, said: “Myself and fellow Commercial Manager Connor Cupples both come from music backgrounds.

"I co-own a record shop in Newport and Connor promotes shows across the country. Both of us have put on numerous gigs in grassroots venues, and it was obvious there were massive similarities across the two worlds."
