Kinetic Publishing and Half Mermaid Productions have officially announced PRECOGNITION, a new live-action sci-fi horror game from Sam Barlow, the creator of IMMORTALITY and Her Story. The project also marks a collaboration with acclaimed horror filmmaker Brandon Cronenberg.

Previously teased under the name “Project C,” PRECOGNITION builds on Barlow’s signature approach to interactive storytelling. It combines live-action FMV footage with non-linear narratives and player-driven choices.

The game follows Diana, a woman who gains the ability to see visions of the future after an experimental implant is placed inside her brain. Players will explore these visions, focus on important details, and commit what they see to Diana’s memory. However, remembering something from the future comes with a major catch. Because once Diana remembers a detail, the future itself can change.

According to Barlow, the team is pushing the boundaries of non-linear storytelling while giving players greater freedom to shape the experience. The game will reportedly blend investigation and mystery elements with a constantly shifting cause-and-effect narrative.

Brandon Cronenberg, known for his work in sci-fi horror films, is co-developing the story and will work alongside Barlow in the writing room. Cronenberg said the project provides an ideal way to explore subjective horror, as every player can experience the story differently.

The team is planning to launch the game in Spring 2028. It will be coming out on PC via Steam, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2.

With its intriguing premise and creative team, PRECOGNITION could offer a fascinating new take on interactive horror.
