This summer is officially Ottawaâs wettest since data was first collected on rainfall in 1872, said retired climatologist David Phillips.
âThis beat the record of all those years. Itâs never been this wet,â Phillips said.
Although data was only collected up to Aug. 10, the monumental 488 millimetres of rain that fell on the city up until that day was enough to break 1972âs summer record, when it rained 464 millimetres.
Phillips defined the summer as June 1 to Aug. 31 and used data gathered from the Ottawa International Airport in his analysis.
