Bethesda Finally Confirms The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered Patch Is Coming

Bethesda has confirnmed a patch for The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered is on the way, with the Nintendo Switch 2 version now out the door.

Oblivion Remastered has been without a patch on PC since July 2025, and still suffers from issues that plagued it at launch, including worsening performance the more you play. In May last year, the tech experts at Digital Foundry said Oblivion Remastered suffered from significant performance problems, including hitches while roaming the open world, frame-rate problems, and even performance degrading slowly with more playing time, potentially due to a memory leak. Then, in May this year, Digital Foundry revisited Oblivion Remastered to check in on how it performs, and found many of the same issues.

It was yet another damning assessment of Oblivion Remastered, which has a ‘mostly positive’ Steam user review rating for all reviews, but a ‘mixed’ user review rating for recent reviews. “Abandonware,” declared one negative review. “There are still glaring bugs and performance issues. They updated twice after release and now we are getting close to one year without anything.”

Now, Bethesda has said a patch is indeed in the works, and it will add optimizations made for the Switch 2 version.

“We've heard your feedback asking for an additional patch for Oblivion Remastered,” Bethesda said in a tweet. “The Nintendo Switch 2 version of the game has a number of optimizations that we are looking into bringing to other platforms and we will share more when we are able.”

That’s pretty vague, but fans have responded positively to the statement. “Insane that they've said NOTHING about this for over a year, but glad to finally hear something,” one fan said on the Oblivion subreddit. “This better be substantial.”

Oblivion Remastered, overall, seems like a big success for Bethesda, which contracted Virtuos to help remake its much-loved role-playing game using Unreal Engine 5. It’s seen over 9 million players, and Bethesda development chief Todd Howard told IGN in December that the studio was “really, really pleased with how well it did.” So it seems somewhat odd that the game hasn’t seen an update since July 2025.
