A “red-warning” tornado alert had been issued for the Ottawa area by Environment Canada on Monday evening, but by 7:30 p.m. only a thunderstorm watch remained in effect for the national capital area.

At 5:29 p.m. on Aug. 10, the weather agency had said meteorologists were tracking a severe thunderstorm that “is possibly producing a tornado”.
It labelled the impact level as extreme and the forecast confidence as very high.
It said damaging winds, large hail and locally intense rainfall were also possible.
