A.P. Jithender Reddy, Special Representative of the Government of Telangana and Advisor to the Government for Sports Affairs, met Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh in New Delhi to press for the formal notification of the Hyderabad-Bengaluru Defence Industrial Corridor. The meeting took place at the Defence Minister’s official residence and included Khammam MP R. Raghuram Reddy and Mahabubabad MP Balram Naik.
During the meeting, Sri Jithender Reddy reiterated the request made by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy to establish the corridor as an official Defence and Aerospace Corridor of the Government of India. The proposal seeks recognition on par with existing corridors in Uttar Pradesh and Tamil Nadu, which have already received central government approval and support.
The Telangana representative emphasized that Hyderabad stands as one of India’s largest aerospace and defence hubs. The city houses more than a dozen major defence PSUs and strategic DRDO laboratories, along with over 1,500 aerospace and defence MSMEs. This existing infrastructure positions the region as a critical centre for defence manufacturing in the country.
Telangana recorded 100 per cent growth in aerospace and defence exports during 2025-26, demonstrating the state’s expanding capabilities in the sector. This significant growth underscores the potential of the proposed corridor to contribute to national defence manufacturing goals and export competitiveness.
Sri Jithender Reddy stated that the proposed corridor would strengthen indigenous defence manufacturing and accelerate research and development activities. He added that the corridor would facilitate infrastructure creation and capacity building while contributing significantly to the country’s defence preparedness and the Make in India initiative.
The establishment of the corridor is expected to attract further investments in defence manufacturing, create employment opportunities, and enhance the technological capabilities of the region. The corridor would connect two major technology and aerospace hubs, creating a strategic belt for defence production and innovation.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh responded positively to the request and assured that the proposal would be duly considered by the central government. The minister’s assurance has raised hopes in Telangana for the formal notification of the corridor in the near future.
