Stresses physical activity, connection with nature in digital age

SRINAGAR: Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir Dr Moulvi Mohammad Umar Farooq inaugurated the Funkara Adventure Park for children, in Nowgam, describing it as a welcome initiative to promote physical activity, creativity and a connection with nature among the younger generation.
Speaking on the occasion, Mirwaiz said that in today’s digital age, children are increasingly drawn to screens, online games and gadgets, making it important to create spaces that encourage them to step outdoors and engage in healthy physical and creative activities.
He appreciated the park’s close-to-nature environment, with rabbits and ducks, as well as activities such as pottery, archery and adventure sports, which provide children opportunities to learn new skills, exercise and engage creatively away from screens.
Mirwaiz said that a strong and healthy body is important for a strong and healthy mind. While parents and children rightly focus on academics and education, physical well-being, exercise and outdoor activity should receive equal attention.
He expressed hope that the initiative would encourage healthier and more balanced lifestyles among children and inspire more such child-friendly spaces in Kashmir.
