It is worth noting that while new vehicle owners will get RC with this card only with their new vehicle, those who have old paper RC will also be able to apply online for RC with new smart card. How will the new smart RC be?
- Until now, paper RCs were available in Uttar Pradesh in the form of a form. There was always the fear of it tearing or getting damaged by getting wet.
- Now, the Smart RC will be like an ATM card, easily stored in a wallet or similar device.
- It will also have a microchip, which will store all the vehicle and its owner’s data in encrypted form.
- The card will also have a QR code, which can be read to obtain details when needed.
How will the Smart RC work?
- The electronic chip embedded in the Smart RC will record the vehicle’s engine number, chassis number, fuel type, and owner’s name and address.
- It will be impossible to alter it or create a fake document based on it.
- In addition, traffic police will no longer have to repeatedly type in long registration numbers during inspections.
- Real-time information about the vehicle’s insurance, PUC, and tax payments can be obtained by simply scanning the QR code.
How to get it registered online
- It’s not that existing vehicle owners can’t take advantage of the new Smart RC. You can easily convert your old RC to a new Smart RC using the Vahan Portal.
- To do this, first go to the Vahan Portal from your phone or laptop.
- Select Uttar Pradesh as your state, then select your RTO office, or proceed directly by entering the vehicle number.
- Now go to RC Related Services and select the Issue of Smart Card or Duplicate RC option.
- Re-check the details by entering your vehicle’s registration number and chassis number.
- You will then receive an OTP on your linked mobile number. Use that to complete your verification.
- Now pay the government processing fee set on the portal online using UPI, net banking, or card.
- After payment, download the payment receipt and application form PDF and keep it safe.
- Once the RTO completes the document verification, your new Smart RC card will be sent directly to your home address via speed post.
