Repeated complaints and threats against municipal workers have Tecumseh considering new restrictions on residents who repeatedly target town staff.

The proposed policy could limit contact with municipal employees after someone files three or more complaints about the same issue within a year, while abusive or harassing complaints could be dismissed outright.
“While most complaints received by the Town are submitted in good faith, there have been and continue to be ongoing instances where complaints become repetitive, frivolous, vexatious, or otherwise unreasonable in nature and place an unreasonable strain on municipal time and resources,” said director of legislative services and municipal clerk, Robert Auger, during a recent council meeting.

Tecumseh Mayor Gary McNamara said the town has seen a significant increase of repetitive and abusive complaints from residents.
“Sometimes people just don’t like the results, and they just keep coming back, and it’s taking a lot of time for administration to reinvestigate something that’s been investigated,” McNamara said. “We’ve had circumstances where complainants have come in five, six times within a few months for the same issue.”
