Bradley Cooper and Gigi Hadid continue in Paris, amidst speculation that they got secret married. Secret marriage: it’s 2026’s hottest trend. Is it a secret if your family and friends are there, or did you just not issue a press release? And/or stage your wedding in one of the biggest cities in the world on one of the busiest weekends of the year, ensuring everyone noticed it even if no one SAW it.
Anyway, BCoop and Gigi are in Paris, sporting “coordinated” outfits. Is it coordinated or are they just both wearing red shirts? I have a lot of questions today about how much credit we give celebrities for doing regular life stuff, like getting dressed. Maybe BCoop and Gigi are one of THOSE couples, though. You know the ones, they do couple costumes every Halloween, they like all the same foods and dress similarly all the time. Their stint in Paris has been pretty matchy-matchy so far.
I am more interested in making assumptions about the Ocean’s 11 prequel based on BCoop’s styling. The slicked-back hair, the curated stubble, the fake tan—he’s sporting the cinematic trademarks of a con man. The prequel’s plot revolves around a heist at the Monaco Grand Prix, BCoop looks like he might trying to blend in with the European playboy set. Believable for a persona adopted by Danny Ocean’s dad. I enjoy the Ocean’s movies (justice for Ocean’s Eight!) and am interested to see what kind of spin Cooper puts on it, not only as an actor but as a writer/director. I’m also interested to see him direct a movie that isn’t Oscar bait.
His three feature films as a director, to date, have all been blatant Oscar bait. And to his credit, Cooper has racked up five nominations from the films he’s directed, including two for screenplays and Best Picture (both A Star is Born, Maestro), not to mention the numerous nominations his films got other people, including Lady Gaga’s Best Original Song win for “Shallow”. Cooper himself hasn’t won an Oscar yet, but it really is only a matter of time.
Of course, the Ocean’s movies aren’t about trophies, they’re about good old-fashioned fun at the cineplex. And I look forward to it! In no small part because this WON’T be Oscar bait, and I want to see what kind of director Cooper is when he isn’t chasing little gold men. As an actor, he can very charming and fun, traits that tend to get lost when he is Suffering For Trophies. Maybe Ocean’s Prequel will be a return to the early days of BCoop, when he was regularly in comedies. Never, EVER forget that Bradley Cooper’s first film role was in comedy cult classic Wet Hot American Summer. The closest we’ve gotten to Comedy Coop in the last decade is his vocal performance as Rocket Raccoon, which is very good, but I have missed Comedy Coop for a long time. I am glad to see him return.
