"The demand for such a film has been off the charts, not only as a keepsake of their experience, but for those many fans that have not been able to see it live"
On the heels of yesterday's (August 5) news that CBC will release a Neil Peart documentary this fall, Rush have let Toronto fans know that their upcoming four-night stint at Scotiabank Arena as part of their 50 Something reunion tour will be filmed for a potential concert movie.
Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson gave the Toronto Star the exclusive insight that all four of their sold-out shows, beginning tomorrow (August 7), will be filmed in their entirety as material for a likely concert film. The fact that they both grew up in Toronto makes it a "natural choice," according to Lee.
"The demand for such a film has been off the charts, not only as a keepsake of their experience, but for those many fans that have not been able to see it live," he told the Star's David Friend. "We know there are fans travelling here from all across the globe and that will make it a special week."
The bassist/vocalist's brother, Allan Weinrib, will oversee the footage, making his directorial debut after years producing the band's projects, including 2015's Rush: R40 Live.
Sharing a scan of the print article in the paper on social media, Rush wrote, "Get practicing your air drumming skills! Decide what Rush swag you'll wear! We're filming all 4 shows in Toronto!!!!"
