Palmeiras have shifted their focus to developing Conceicao internally over selling this summer

The Brazilian club want around £42M for the 16-year-old should they decide to sell in the future

Conceicao has been handed a new contract with a £85M release clause to protect his value

Palmeiras have placed the futures of Manchester City and Manchester United's pursuit of teenage winger Eduardo Conceicao on hold, as per a new report from Brazil.

Conceicao had been among the most talked-about teenage prospects in South American football across the past several months, with his performances for Palmeiras' U20 side and for Brazil at the FIFA U17 World Cup generating significant interest from some of the biggest clubs in Europe.

The 16-year-old, who operates as a direct right-footed left winger with exceptional verticality and pace, was tracked by Manchester City and a host of other European heavyweights – including Barcelona, Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain – with the breadth of the interest reflecting a profile already regarded internally at Palmeiras as one of the finest young talents to emerge from their academy in recent memory.

Manchester United are understood to have held more formal discussions over a potential deal, with reports from Brazil suggesting the club signalled their intention to table a formal offer – but those conversations have now cooled significantly following a shift in Palmeiras' own thinking about the right path forward for the teenager.

Palmeiras' position has been shaped in part by the knowledge that Conceicao cannot officially join a European club until he turns 18, meaning any deal agreed this summer would not produce a physical arrival until January 2028 at the earliest – a timeline that gives the club considerable leverage to hold their ground and continue developing him within their own structure.

As reported by Globo Esporte and relayed by Sport Witness, Palmeiras have now resolved to retain Conceicao and promote him into the senior squad, with the club having altered their stance after negotiations cooled during the World Cup period.

Should they decide to sell in future windows, Palmeiras are understood to be targeting a fee of around £42 million, a figure that reflects both the player's exceptional potential and the precedent set by the club's recent sale of Estevao to Chelsea for a figure in excess of that amount.

Conceicao has been secured on a new contract that includes a release clause understood to be in the region of £85 million, providing significant protection against any unsolicited approach at a lower valuation and giving Palmeiras full control over the terms on which any future departure could occur.

City's pursuit of Conceicao was one of several youth-level threads in a summer that has already delivered a club record £116 million signing of Elliot Anderson and the dual academy coups of Jeremy Monga from Leicester and Mishel Nduka from Arsenal's Hale End.

On the senior side, Geronimo Rulli is close to joining from Marseille as backup goalkeeper, while the pursuit of Ayyoub Bouaddi from Lille remains the most significant piece of ongoing incoming business, with verbal agreement on personal terms already in place and the clubs working through the final structural details of a deal.
