Danchi Days, an upcoming slice-of-life adventure from the co-creator of Anodyne and Angeline Era, launches on Steam on October 29. Blending heartfelt storytelling with lighthearted humor, the game follows 12-year-old Hoshino as she returns to her Japanese hometown to live with her grandmother, who is experiencing dementia.
Hoping to brighten her grandmother’s spirits, Hoshino sets out to revive the neighborhood’s long-forgotten summer festival. To do so, she’ll need to win over the residents of the local danchi, a traditional Japanese housing complex filled with memorable personalities. Players will meet friendly seniors, rebellious teenagers, and hardworking adults, each with their own stories.
As players explore the neighborhood, they’ll uncover hidden truths while experiencing both joyful and emotional moments. Danchi Days also features an in-game internet that lets players learn more about their neighbors, though darker corners of the web reveal tensions surrounding the festival.
Hoshino is joined by her kappa companion, Moro-Q, on a quest to collect five offerings needed to restore the celebration. Along the way, players will explore forests and buildings while taking part in quirky “Sense Games”. This includes smelling trees, hugging plush toys, and even listening to toilets.
A 90-minute demo of the first chapter is already available on Steam. Danchi Days will launch for Windows, Mac, and Steam Deck with support for English, Japanese, and Simplified Chinese. The game will cost $14.99, with a 10% launch discount at release.
